Are You Willing to Fall Flat on Your Face?
Let’s face it, being creative is risky. Suggesting a different method might offend someone. Mention to an individual that his behavior is inappropriate is surely a jeopardy.
However, it is by taking risks that we grow. Growth is essential to the organization and growth is vital to the success of a person, even more so.
We hear of individuals making it big as entrepreneurs. There are new companies with explosive growth in virtually all industries. The oft asked question, how did they make it big? They took risks.
Many of us have heard the quotes; nothing ventured, nothing gained, stepping out, go for it, take a chance or what have I got to lose. Then fear steps in, and we hear; only fools rush in, play it safe, or better to be safe than sorry. There is the concern of “falling flat on my face,” “getting egg on my face” and “getting my nose bloodied.”
Quotations abound on taking risks to grow and succeed. Even when attempting to find quotes to play it safe, there are few. The safe quotes too, suggest the importance of taking risks. Perhaps the most well-known one is “A ship is safe in harbor, but that is not what ships are for.”
Taking risks requires having faith in your abilities, overcoming doubts and eliminating fear. Think for a moment, has there ever been a time in your life where you had to take a risk? The risk could be a decision or perhaps a judgment you were compelled to make. Moreover, when you took that risk, did you not come out wiser, stronger and with a greater awareness of your abilities and talents? Did you not grow out of that experience smarter, stronger, with more courage and no more fear?
When you take a risk or take an opportunity to take a chance. When you seize the opportunity to share an idea, render your opinion, or to stand up to a value; and you do not do what your fear is telling you to do but instead, do what you hold to be genuine and valuable through courage and personal faith you change your destiny at that moment. Furthermore, when you change your destiny, do you not change in some way, the fate of your organization, your industry, your country and even the future of the whole planet? Yes, you do. Oh, yes, you do.
