In Quest of the Holy Grail
Oh, how I wish I could hear all the comments from readers when reading the title. A high number say that I am wrong and there is no such thing. The title intrigues others to want to read and learn. And many of you figure that I know and still want to hear what I am about to scribe regarding this well known and heralded object of much discussion over the centuries.
There has been much written on the Holy Grail. What again, is the search for the Holy Grail? The Holy Grail when “found” may bring enlightenment, wisdom, perfect relationships, a stellar career, excellent health, a masterful financial trader and investor, and harmonious living.
The Holy Grail: Its Origins, Secrets and Meaning Revealed by Malcolm Goodwin discuss nine Holy Grail myths. Joseph Campbell wrote The Power of Myth, an excellent book depicting one’s search for the Holy Grail and its meaning. It is Campbell who describes the Holy Grail being placed in the midst of human conflict; this conflict is referred to as a wasteland where this desert represents the inauthentic life that most people lead.
Living a life in the wasteland is living a life without the courage to lead one’s own life. Thus finding the Holy Grail is living our own life and living it with fulfillment, reward, and all of one’s potential.
Many want to believe that those who find success, have done just that, found it. The Holy Grail is the solution to life’s wants if one is only able to attain the elusive Holy Grail. The good news is that the secret exists. What is surprising to many when and if they find the secret, it is where one least expects the secret to be.
L. Frank Baum wrote The Wizard of Oz as a children’s novel, which of course became a movie classic. The film speaks volumes towards the search for the Holy Grail. Dorothy needn’t seek the wizard to find her way home, nor did the Tinman, The Cowardly Lion, or The Scarecrow need the Wizard to bestow gifts of courage, heart, and brains.
The answer is clear. One’s secret to gain all that he or she desires resides in one’s self. We can lead a fulfilling and rewarding life if we have the courage to lead our own life and not be dependent on the opinions of others. Shakespeare says it well in Hamlet when Polonius speaks these profound words, “To thine own self be true.”
